Suit Up for the Long Weekend

This July 4th, the perfect swimsuit or coverup will add a tropical punch to your backyard gathering. While your usual party-mode may be more subdued and limited to family and close friends this year, our latest collection of swim features tropical blooms straight from one of our favorite vacation spots, Hawaii. “It’s not quite red, white and blue, but it’s close,” says Theresa McAllen, our VP of Design of our Maya print. Oh, to add a little California flavor to your weekend, we asked our favorite brunch spot, Little Vice in Long Beach for their signature guacamole recipe at the bottom of this post. All you have to add are some chips, sunhat and a fruity sangria!

A Maillot Makeover

To show a hint-more-skin, we love the Maya Wrap One-Piece. The V-neckline and tie at the side of the waist adds a flattering hourglass silhouette but still offers optimal coverage. “I also love to wear this with a loose trouser and a lightweight jacket or cardigan for evening,” says Theresa.

It’s Bikini Season

Keep it a little retro this summer with a high-waisted bottom like this one from our Maya collection. Pair it with the Twist Top, which adds a lovely color contrast and sturdy support. Or, for slightly more coverage, try the Maya Top. For cocktail hour or afternoon appetizers, pair the tops with our mixing-and-matching Wrap Pant. With its wide-leg and an elastic waist, this effortless silhouette is the perfect synergy of style and comfort, and pairs seamlessly with a tee for daytime or a lightweight blazer and strappy sandals for evening.

Say Yes to This Dress

A summer collection from Johnny Was wouldn’t be complete without a relaxed kaftan. “With its handkerchief hemline and classic drop-shoulder sleeves, this feels so chic and now,” adds Theresa. No styling tips necessary, it literally is pop-on-and-go. Bare feet for mornings, slides for errands and a sandal for evening. “I pair mine with some chunky, gold bangles that I found a few years back at an outdoor market in Spain, and feel very much like a glamorous, classic Elizabeth Taylor,” says Theresa.

Oh, we didn’t forget, the best guacamole recipe on the planet (see  below). Wishing you all a beautiful and safe weekend. For an extra 25% off swim this weekend use the code: FIREWORKS & more inspo, head over here.
