Prelude to Fall—The Dress EditJuly 12 2021
While it may feel slightly premature to talk about the upcoming fall season, our latest collection features pieces that were designed with transitions in mind—the waning days of summer that turn into the shorter days of autumn. Silhouettes that are made to be worn solo or layered, and crafted in versatile fabrics and mellow shades that swing from a dusty pink to a deep teal. In signature Johnny Was fashion, we always like to start with a great dress; whether it’s a tiered maxi or a summery swing style. Here’s the edit of what’s new, as well as all the ways to style it for now and later.
Slip into Silk
The relaxed fit of the Nilu Dress is the epitome of bohemian romance. Crafted from featherweight silk and in the perfect dusty rose, it features vintage-inspired details like a delicate pintuck panel at the bust and a soft volume to the skirt. We paired it with a simple ballet slipper and our Lailuma Multi Stone Necklace from our new Pippa Small collab, where the central rose quartz stone compliments the pink dress perfectly. When the temps dip, this dress would be perfect layered under a knit like our California Love Pullover and a knee-high boot—the unexpected combo of a luxe silk with a cozy knit is so chic for fall.
Try a Teal
Jewel tones are always a top choice but the richness of these colors is the perfect example of how summer dresses can also transition to autumn. The Eisen Dress is tiered with a dreamy print, reminiscent of the watery brush strokes on an impressionist painting. The cropped length makes this an easy day-to-night choice; we went with a strappy sandal to dress it up, but, a flat for now and a bootie for later is also chic. The Lunamo Crane ¾ Sleeve Swing Dress is in the same color family but features a more mod look with its A-line silhouette. Crafted from a bamboo knit, it has a casual style that’s great for work and weekend. For now, add a cute sneaker or flat and for later, tights, boots, and a knit like the Fringe Cardigan.
Make it a Maxi
The enduring appeal of a tiered maxi dress works all year round but in our new collection, we paid particular attention to the details that lend an extra level of versatility. The Isabis Tiered Maxi Dress is crafted from a breezy woven with a print that features vertical stripes of mixed prints. It comes with a slip so there’s hints-of-sheer on the sleeves, as well as in the movement of the skirt. For warmer days, we love this with a strappy, flat sandal and we also added our statement Dreamer Cuff Bracelet as a silver-hued accent. When the days get cooler, slip on a dark colored cover up like the Perennial Sweater.
