Santa Fe Holiday

NOVEMBER 10, 2021

To inspire us for our 2021 holiday collection, we took a trip to sublime Santa Fe, New Mexico. “Santa Fe is one of the most spiritual and naturally beautiful landmarks in our country,” says Laura Pizzarelli, Brand Director. “It felt like the perfect spot to welcome in the new year with optimism, gratitude, and mindfulness.”

Santa Fe is a city that is steeped in soul and creativity—from its rich Native American history to Ghost Ranch, one of our locations as well as the last home to 20th-century artist, Georgia O’Keeffe (the museum celebrating her is also a must-see). Our 2021 holiday collection is also steeped in soul and creativity. It was all luxury knits, rich velvets, and cranberry-red party looks, as well as lounge sets that were on-point for hiking along the striated mountain, ranges near Abiquiu as they will be walking with family on Thanksgiving morning.

To highlight a few of the key looks from that Johnny Was holiday collection, along with the locations that inspired them, read on.

SOUTHWEST KNITS

A luxury cardigan or coat is something timeless, whether it’s for you or a gift for a loved one. For this winter, one of the big trends in knitwear is animal print and the Le Tigre Poncho, which is a soft blend of wool and cashmere, is a relaxing way to try some safari style. The silhouette is inspired by a classic Southwest poncho with draped shoulders and geo trims. The canyons and cliffs of Ghost Ranch were also the ideal backdrops to showcase the beautiful Jora Duster. The embroidered design and hues of sage and adobe rose are right at home on the Box Canyon Trail and the Freja Felt Hat was the perfect topper.

CASUAL RANCH CELEBRATIONS

The hue of the holidays has always been a celebratory red, and the Rahi Kimono feels festive and also a nod to El Rancho de las Golondrinas, or The Ranch of the Swallows. A historic rancho with buildings dating back to the 1700s and a historical snapshot of time-old artisan traditions such as weaving and candle making. For our daytime looks, we kept it casual with skinny jeans, booties and minimal accessories. We also styled the Tandit Blouse featuring a romantic, and intricate embroidery across the front, at El Rancho. Finally, what ranch attire would be complete without the Celestial Felt Hat?

NEW MEXICO ELEGANCE

The inspiration behind much of this collection was traditional, artisan techniques. The Diza Mesh Dress features a mesh overlay with geo elements embroidered along the front and down the sleeves. Style it solo with some heels for a holiday party or dress it down with the Paisano Turquoise Belt and a knee-high boot. Whether you’re taking in the expansive views of New Mexico or celebrating this holiday season with a glass of pinot noir, the time to enjoy warmth, family and gratitude is right now.
