Weekend Wellness Rituals: Homemade Mud MasksJune 1 2018
The benefits of a Friday night at-home are many. Not only does it allow you to wind down from the work week but it’s also the perfect time to practice a little DIY spa ritual. One of our favorites is to make a mud mask because it’s easy, feels fantastic and leaves your face with a great, glowy vibe that’s ready to face the weekend.
Here’s one of our tried-and-test recipes. We call it our Friday Night Fix as the clay is great for clearing stress-induced breakouts and firming skin; the honey is naturally anti-bacterial; while the dried flowers and oils calm any redness (and smell great).
–2 tsp Bentonite Clay (check your local drug store or Amazon)
–2 tsp raw honey
–2 tsp of water
–1 tsp of dried chamomile flowers or calendula flowers
–2 drop of lavender essential oil (optional)
Start by whizzing your flowers in a food processor until they almost powder-form (you can also just break open a tea bag in a pinch). Next, fold together the clay, honey and water in a bowl. If you’d like a thinner consistency, feel free to add more H2O. Finally, add the herbs and oil before gently stir.
Apply a thin layer to a clean face and let it soak in and dry for at least 10-15 minutes. To rinse, try and get in a hot shower or tub as this helps to steam off the mask so you don’t have to rub too hard to remove. If you’d rather use a warm washcloth, we suggest a dark color and just place it on the face for a minute before gently pulling it off.
Finally, if you want a next-level spa experience, try tripling the ingredients and applying the mixture to décolletage, shoulders and arms as well. That way, come Saturday morning you’ll be ready for any all yoga classes, farmer’s market runs or brunch dates with a gorgeous glow that will make people think you spent a week at the spa and not just a night on the couch.
