Trend Spotting : Get Your GreensJune 7 2021
We all love a leafy, summer salad, and this season, fashion took inspiration from the verdant greens found in nature with everything from a muted sage to a bold, deep forest. A little more unexpected than blue, green can be an understated neutral or a dramatic shot of color that pairs perfectly with sun-kissed skin (and red lipstick). For our Summer Collection, we explored this hue in multiple ways from a natural tie-dye, to color blocking, to updating a timeless print by switching up the color palette. To get you inspired for summer style, here’s our curated edit of how to get (and love) your greens.
The Light Touch
If you’re dipping into green for the first time, pick pieces that use a light touch of color. Our Jade Marble Puff Sleeve Midi Dress features a unique tie-dye print that has shades of the palest sage down to a deep jade against a white background. This summer dress, with its linen construction and contrast flourish of embroidery, is a casually elegant way to go green. If you prefer separates, pick the Jade Marble Linen Smoking Jacket, which has the same tie-dye look and with extra embroidery on the trims. For daytime, this would be a great topper with our Karim Easy Short or the Odine Paperbag Short. For evening, layer it with a simple dress or a relaxed trouser.
Switched Up Prints
One of our favorite prints of all time is the timeless bandana with its signature paisley design. To give this classic an update, we switched out the usual red or blue background for greens with touches of turquoise. The Bandana Oversized Shirt is a nod to menswear with its traditional button-up front and slightly oversized silhouette. The print adds a touch of fresh whimsy and is perfect for topping some denim, like our Desert Embroidered Jean (note: we also love this shirt as a bathing suit coverup).
Bold Color Blocking
Maxi skirts have been trending all year with their effortless ankle-skimming shape, but when Johnny Was added bold panels of color blocking—from deep blue to pale turquoise—the effect is stunning. The Yadira Color Block Maxi Skirt is striking, yet also endlessly versatile. Inspired by the colorways of a peacock feather, this skirt works equally well with one of our neutral Layering Tees, or the matching Zaida Color Block Top for a look that is pure boho beautiful. All ready for a warm summer night and a glass of chilled sangria.
