While it starts with #GivingTuesday, the spirit of giving and gratitude stretches all the way to the New Year and beyond. This season reminds us to connect with loved ones, help others and reflect on what’s in store for the next decade. While we love nothing more than a gift-giving shopping spree, being of service to someone else is ultimately one of the most joy-inducing actions around. To quote writer Maya Angelou, “when you learn, teach. When you get, give.”

Each year at Johnny Was, we pick a local charity to support and one of our most beloved is Five Acres, a non-profit that promotes safety, well-being and permanency for children and their families. That can look like helping a young adult navigate the foster care system while providing housing in the process, as well as helping them to find a stable home whether it’s with their biological family or via adoption. Five Acres also offers community outreach, mental health assistance and a housing facility for children, mainly between the ages of 6 to 14. Impressively, it’s been helping children since 1888.

On November 20th, we kicked off the season with in-store shopping events at all our locations where 10% off all proceeds went to Five Acres. For the month of December, we will donate 100% of the proceeds from our stockings and wine bags. Each one is unique and one-of-a-kind and we try to use recycled fabrics and trims from past collections. The totes add an extra flourish to any hostess gift, or make gift-wrapping that rare Irish whiskey a breeze. The stockings add a festive element to a bannister or attached to a mantle.

If you’d like to know more, visit 5acres.org to see their inspiring success stories, as well as other ways you can help with their fundraising efforts for some new furniture in their residential facilities. Every bit makes a difference, and this past year alone they have helped over 10,000 children thanks to support and donations.

Hop on over to our Gift Guide to snap up some bags and stockings, or to be inspired by our other gorgeous gift ideas. We wish you a beautiful holiday.
