We can all be a bit particular when it comes to choosing a swimsuit. Rightfully so. A bathing suit is the least amount of clothing most of us wear in public everso it makes sense you want to know all the tricks for finding a suit that makes you feel your best. For our latest collection of swimwear and cover-ups, we headed down to the gorgeous Cabo San Lucas in Baja Mexico. While the views are breath-taking the real star in the sand was Johnny Was Swim. Here, our fabulous Theresa McAllen, our VP of Design for her how-to-wear tips.

Pick a Maillot with Impact

“If you feel a little insecure about your figure pick a classic one-piece silhouette but make sure it has something extra to draw the eye where you want it to go,” suggests Theresa. Our Cora Lace Front One Piece has a fuller coverage in the rear, a flattering cut-up at the hips to elongate legs but the real draw is the criss-cross lacing at the bust–it subtly flatters your décolletage and also highlights our stunning print.

Try a Two-Piece with Coverage

Not quite ready for a classic bikini? Slip into a tankini like our Hadley Ruffle Top paired with the Hadley Hipster. Slightly more coverage with a cropped tank top style, our version features a built-in shelf bra and adjustable shoulder ties. “I love tankinis because they show just a hint of midriff,” says Theresa. “And the top also works well if you just slip on a pair of shorts for a casual seafront lunch break or for poolside happy hour.”

Sometimes Simple is Best

“I like to have a suit that’s streamlined for when I’m doing laps or swimming in the surf, and then switch out to something a little more fun and fashionable for lounging,” says Theresa. “A simple one-piece silhouette looks great on every figure too.” For added function, look for a suit that has a built-in shelf bra and is fully lined. Our Paola Tank Suit has it all and also offers UPF 50+ sun protection which is key if you’re spending a lot of time in the water.

Always Have A Cover Up

“Don’t skimp on style when it comes to packing a cover up for your vacation,” advises Theresa. “I always pack a few giant scarves that I can tie around my hips as well as lightweight jacket.” Our Miranda Kimono is made from a lightweight silk and has a hint-of-sheer but you’ll still feel covered up. “It’s also great to wear over a silk camisole if you’re going out to dinner. Very chic.”
