Johnny Was Blog
Poolside State of MindJanuary 12, 2019
When it came to our swim line, we heard you. After years of packing our luxe separates for every vacation from Oceanside in Maine to wandering the souks in Morocco, the wait was worth it and we took our time designing this vacation-mode collection. And as anyone who has gone swimsuit shopping knows, the fit is paramount. “We were very thoughtful with print placement, as well as our signature embroideries,” says designer, Biya Ramar. “The construction and fabrication are top notch and we had Johnny Was employees try them on many times to make sure they were flattering to all body types.”
We realized when it came to crafting a swim collection everyone has specific needs and wants so we’ve tried to cater to all. Here are a few tips and tricks for choosing which style works best for you.
Make it a Maillot: For the one-piece, not only did we give you lots of different design tweaks–think ruching, adjustable straps and flattering cuts for the bustline–but also took some of our most popular prints that pair perfectly with Johnny Was tunics and sarongs.
Try a Tankini: The ease of a bikini but with more coverage. “The whole collection is made to mix and match so it’s fun to pair different tops with bottoms,” says Biya. We have bottoms with a more vintage high-waist or the classic, lower hipster silhouette.
Day to Night Cover-Ups: No one spends 24/7 in only a swimsuit so be sure to have some cover-ups to match (it makes that walk to a happy hour much more chic). Two of our favorites are the Ember Short Kimono and the Dolce Dream pant. “These can easily be dressed up or down and feature some of our most popular silhouettes,” adds Ramar.
Care for Your Swimwear: When you first get your suit, soak it in water and two capfuls of swimwear protector, which helps to protect the fabric from chlorine. Try and do the same after each wear (or at least rinse in water). Don’t ring it out, just press out excess water and leave to dry. This helps to remove everything from chlorine, salt water, and oils from your sunscreen.
