Ellamo Embroidered Kimono and Hirsch Velvet Crop Pant

If there’s one piece of clothing that is synonymous with Johnny Was, it’s the kimono. From our limited edition one-of-a-kind custom kimonos to our current collections of luxe covers, this Asian-inspired jacket is on-point perfection this season. “It’s a really wearable silhouette that also has a touch of the exotic,” says Theresa McAllen, our SVP of Design. ”Depending on how you style it, it can go full-on bohemian or look black-tie chic.” For winter, we’ve created some bold jackets in every length and color combination; the perfect way to update your cold-weather style. Here’s some kimono inspiration.

Play with Print on Print: A printed kimono over a printed dress really feels like you’re showing off personal style. To keep the look from getting too busy, keep both pieces the same length. Also, make sure that both pieces are in the same color family. This mixing not matching look feels glamorous but still has a unique stamp.

Update with velvet: You mostly think of kimonos as being a lightweight silk or rayon but when crafted in velvet they take on a luxe look. Since this shimmery fabric already has an elegant
feel, keep the tones head-to-toe monotone. Instead, we’ve played with texture, the burnout print on the dress and tonal embroidery to give this look a unique chic.

Pair it with Denim: Jeans are the everyday champion in most of our wardrobes and nothing elevates your basic blues better than a bold kimono jacket. Anything goes when it comes to jeans, so get creative and daring with a really bold kimono print.
