Stay Safe and Keep Covered

We’ve always celebrated the importance of being of service at Johnny Was and are constantly striving to do our part. Now, more than ever, it’s important to protect each other. So, when the CDC announced on April 3rd that we all should be of service to each other by donning a face mask before heading outside, we decided to get you covered. To show you how, here’s our lovely Senior Designer, Lola, showing off what we’ve been busy stitching.

Our production facility quickly pivoted from sewing up our latest collections to making masks. So far, we’ve made a couple of thousand, repurposing our fabric swatches from past seasons, and each mask is fully lined with an opening where you can add your own filter. We’re selling them in packs of five ($25), and for each pack sold we will donate five to some of our favorite charities and facilities that are currently running low on protective coverings. Feeling extra generous? Buy 50 ($250) and we’ll donate another 50. Bottom line: Buy one, give one.

Finally, the CDC announced that the main benefit of wearing masks isn’t to protect you from getting sick, rather, it’s to protect others from yourself, especially if you live in an urban area. In other words, if you’re sick or you’re an asymptomatic carrier, you’ll keep any germs to yourself. Also, since we started making our own masks at Johnny Was, we’ve also noticed that it’s really helpful in stopping your from touching your face (anyone else realizing they seem to touch their face all the time?). Finally, it also acts as a gentle reminder, if you do need to go out, keep your distance. AND IT’S COOL TO BE COVERED!
