Last week, east met west when our second Johnny Was store opened on the Upper East Side of Manhattan at Madison Ave and 80th Street. To celebrate new beginnings, summer style and our recent collections, we put on our dancing shoes, invited some friends over, mixed up some cocktails and had Alexandra Richards (daughter of Rolling Stones Keith Richards and Patti Hansen) DJ her favorite tunes. “With our bold colors and style, Johnny Was brings a gorgeous dose of happiness to the Upper East Side,” says store manager Maggee Villanueva, whose pick for the summer is the jewel-toned Invita blouse.

To stay true to our artisan, well-traveled inspirations, guests like actress Kelly Rutherford and style bloggers Melissa Vale and Michelle Blaska snacked on Latin-inspired paletas by Creative Edge Parties and margaritas crafted with Gem & Bolt mezcal. “I couldn’t wait to get my hands on your flattering kimonos and kaftans,” Blaska said on her @lehoarder Instagram feed.

She wasn’t the only one. After hours of cocktails, crowded dressing rooms and conversation, we called it a night. While this successful evening is officially wrapped, our New York stories are just beginning. Come in and say hello if you’re in the neighborhood.
