For the past year we’ve been counting down the days till we could start planning a weekend getaway or vacation; poring over travel sites, and creating Pinterest boards of tropical beaches (WFH gave some spare time since there was zero commuting and those mental vacations were good for the soul). On the top of our wish list, and the inspiration for our latest swim and resort collection is Costa Azul on the Baja Peninsula. A revered surf spot, it’s got mile-long sandy beaches, interspersed with craggy rock formations and palm trees. It’s our idea of paradise, and also has some of the best fish tacos right on the beach at Casa Calavera, if you venture that way.

“We really kept it positive and colorful with our swim collection this season,” says Theresa McAllen, SVP of Design. “This print with the ocean background and colorful butterflies is perfect for this summer, regardless if you’re somewhere exotic like Baja or in your back yard.” So, whether you're diving into the surf, the pool, or the lounger, here’s how to celebrate the season of swim.

For the Waves

Pick pieces that are sturdy and keep you covered since sunscreen can easily disappear after too much time in the water. The Costa Azul Surf Shirt gives freedom of movement and is crafted from a super stretchy fabrication that molds to the body, has a UPF 50+ for sun protection, and is chlorine and fade resistant. Pair it with the Costa Azul Hipster and take the plunge.

For the Pool

If poolside with a good book is more you, pick a bikini like the Costal Azul Highwaist Bottom. With its higher waistband and full coverage is reminiscent of those classic, starlet suits from the 50s. Pair them with the matching Wrap Top which has molded cups and side stays for extra support. If you’re more comfortable in a maillot the Cut-Out One Piece has flattering ruching up the sides and the same sweetheart neckline as the bikini top. “I love this maillot, we gave it a really classic shape with some interesting cut-out at the bust and on the back,” adds Theresa. For a quick coverup, slip on the Costa Azul Short Kimono, and don’t forget the matching Poolslide (a Johnny Was staff favorite).

For Happy Hour

Hot weather dressing that highlights sun-kissed shoulders and is best accessorized with a margarita? The casual-chic silhouette of the Costa Azul Wrap Pant. With their flared leg and hemline punctuated with tropical flowers, these look effortlessly cool with a plain Layering Tee or the bikini Wrap Top for the more daring. If you’re going straight from cocktails to dinner slip on the Costa Azul Short Kimono.
