Our Favorite Summer DressesMay 18, 2019
Elle Fitzgerald sang the famous lyrics, “summertime and the living is easy” and we couldn’t agree more, especially when it comes to warm weather style. The beauty of the hotter season is simple silhouettes and one-and-done dresses that work from a casual brunch to backyard garden party. “Not only is it simplicity personified, but a great dress is also the most day-to-night piece you can have in your closet,” says Theresa McAllen, our VP of Design. “For summer, we went with lightweight linens and rayon, as well as plenty of white because it’s the ultimate hot weather shade.”
For tips on styling our latest collection of statement-making dresses, Theresa gives her tips on how and where to wear each piece.
“This dress is really easy to dress up or down,” says Theresa of the Daisy Eyelet Dress. Crafted for a lightweight rayon, it can be super casual with a low slide or pair it with a strappy sandal and clutch for a look that’s perfect for date night. The elevated detailing of eyelets and subtle embroidery add to the versatility and when slipped on under one of the season’s oversized blazers is also perfect for work.
A Little Dressier
A midi dress is a must-have in the summer because it’s a shortcut to getting glam with minimal effort. “Every woman should have a great silk piece like the Brenda Dress in her closet,” says Theresa. “Not only is it super comfortable to wear in the heat but the subtle sheen and perfect drape make it beyond chic.” Add an extra element of Bohemia by tying a matching scarf around your hair or on the handle of your bag.
Brunch outdoors in the summer is one of our favorite activities, relaxing time with friends, loved ones and a mimosa. “You can’t go wrong wearing white in the summer, especially if there’s also a subtle print,” says Theresa. The Paris Dress takes the classic silhouette of a peasant blouse and gives it an update with some extra length. With a print and embroidery detailing keep your accessories simple for a casual encounter (think muted slides and a subtle necklace).
Whether you’re on vacation by the beach, or in your backyard pool, an easy coverup is always a good idea. “For anything that I put over a bathing suit I always opt for cotton or linen,” advises Theresa. The Paola Drape Tunic Dress is that perfect length where it gets you covered up but can easily be dressed up with some leggings or a wide-leg trouser if you are running errands or going to a casual lunch. “In the summer, it’s all about pieces that go the distance and have multiple options.”
